Major Charles Robert Soltes, Jr., one of American Heroes Tribute Memorial Banner Recipients received a particular honor recently, Los Angeles KABC 7 New reports:

"The Veterans Affairs' newest blind rehabilitation center in Long Beach was officially dedicated Wednesday, January 25, 2012, along with other buildings at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The center was named after the first military optometrist ever killed in the line of duty. Major Charles Soltes, Jr., 36, was killed by an explosion in Iraq."

On the streets of Discovery Bay, banners hang in tribute to more than two dozen men and women from the Bay Area who died while serving in the military. Juliette Goodrich reports.
